Cancer is caused by genetic malfunction induced unregulated cell growth. Traditional treatments, from surgery to chemotherapy, could hardly distinguish cancer cells from healthy ones, thus causing significant damage to the patient's body as well. Although the newest development of medical science employed antibodies that specifically target cancer cells, the antibody drugs are expensive and the procedure could take a longer time to work. This is a meaningful problem that I decided to tackle.
Having been pondering for some time, I recalled that a chemical named X shared some characteristics of antibodies. By binding X to the antibody with Y bonds, I can increase the rate of A cell attaching to the target cell, enhancing the engulfment. In this way, the antibody effect can be strengthened.
Using an antibody named Z which can cause the death of pancreatic acinar cells and decrease blood glucose level, I then designed an experiment to verify the effectiveness of my enhanced antibody on mice. The result showed that the level of B (a digestive enzyme indirectly produced by pancreatic acinar cells) decreased, which verified that X did not interfere with the essential functions of the antibody. Meanwhile, the blood glucose level decreased by 45% more with some dose-related effects. With the same concentration of the drug, a much better outcome was achieved. With this technology, patients will save 1/3 of their money and recover faster and better. That’s certainly a good start!
