From a rookie who mistook Georgia the country for Georgia the US state to a veteran who aptly led fellow delegates to draft lengthy resolutions, I spent hundreds of hours on Model UN in the past few years. It is a journey on which I constantly challenge myself to the limits and walk out of my comfort zone.
I still vividly remember my first conference in the school auditorium, when a sudden stage fright got the better of me --- I stammered so much that I could not finish my 1-min opening speech. It was an utterly humiliating experience. Lucky for me, senior club members were more than helpful and I gradually overcame the fear with peer exercises. Indeed, I was never a natural-born speaker, but my increased familiarity with contemporary events and communication styles eventually made me a competent MUN delegate. Not unlike The King's Speech, I made some good friends too.
With lessons learned and successes relished, I sought to repay the local MUN community in several ways. For new recruits, I built a systematic training program that helps them live up to their potential and have fun in the meanwhile. For club members, I painstakingly organized weekly talks and workshops so people may discover new knowledge and network with each other. Last but not least, friends and I even took advantage of our ideas and brought them into historical simulation game mods, so that our niche hobby could reach and inspire a much wider audience.
GPA 3.6 TOEFL 98 ACT 29
