Ever since I was a child, I have been curious about how calculators, computers, and smartphones work. Such curiosity leads me to develop an interest in computer science. I have taught myself Java and learned Python and HTML during the SSEP program at X College. When I wrote my first hundred or so lines of Java code, I was frustrated because it was a new, alien field to me. However, as I became familiar with it, I was spellbound by the special charm of programming---breaking down the problems and communicating with machines using their languages. Working with friends and classmates who share the same interest in technology, my proudest achievement so far is to combine Electron (an open-source framework for creating desktop apps) and Selenium (a tool for automating web applications) to create an app that helps students fill complex online college applications within the snap of a finger. When I was working on that app, I realized I could use my passion and skills to make other's life better.
Without predefined instructions or rules, my creativity allowed me to improvise with tools and equipment at hand. At Haverford, programs like Y can prepare me for the knowledge I need and let me unleash my potential in projects and experiential learning. Many other programs, such as Z, would motivate me by showing the relevance of learning to social change. My years at Haverford as a CS student will be truly unique and rewarding.
与对技术有着相同兴趣的朋友和同学一起工作,迄今为止,我最自豪的成就是将Electron(一种用于创建桌面应用程序的开源框架)和Selenium(一种用于自动化web应用程序的工具)结合起来,创建了一个应用程序,帮助学生在短短的时间内填写复杂的在线大学应用程序。
